Rewild your Family

Get into Nature!

These 2hr sessions are designed to increase outdoor time, strengthen bonds between children and caregivers, create and foster a strong connection to the environment and develop children’s independence.

Children of all ages are given the freedom to play or learn as they desire; on endless sandy beaches, rolling dunes, coastal forests, hidden wetlands & ancient volcanic peaks. As we explore Tomaree National park we create structures and nature art, climb trees, roll down sand dunes, hike to peaks and scramble around coastal rocks.

99% of the time Amy will be your facilitator. She is a mum, qualified outdoor leader with lots of local knowledge and adventure enthusiast. “I hope to share the beauty and soul of Port Stephens with visitors and locals alike and foster their connection with nature. If we are connected with nature we are more likely to look after our planet.”

Parents will need to be comfortable walking on uneven surfaces if carrying infants or toddlers (use of a baby carrier is highly recommended).

Our sessions are largely child-led and will focus on what participants show an interest in. Our base recipe is a bush walk, nature craft and exploration.

  • Bushwalks
  • Nature Craft
  • Shelter Building
  • Fire Making & Cooking
  • Climbing
  • Nature Observation
  • Bug Hunting
  • Rock Pool Exploration

For our programs to resume we need to work together in partnership, I understand that our community will be in need of support and connection over the coming weeks, however as always, the safety of our staff, our families and our Tomaree Coastal Adventures community will remain our first priority.

In an effort to ensure the safety of our Tomaree Coastal Adventures community and our staff, we will be implementing the following strategies:

  • We will be encouraging; good hygiene practices such as covering your coughs and sneezes with your elbow, washing your hands often with soap and water, using alcohol-based hand sanitisers.
  • If you or any member of your family/friends (that you live with or who you have had recent close contact with) has any sign of illness we ask that you DO NOT attend the session. In this situation please call our office to organise cancellation or postponement. As this request is being put in place to protect the health of all our families, anyone who ignores this request will be required to leave immediately and any payment made will be forfeited.
  • Soap and water will be provided so participants can clean their hands on arrival and departure. Alcohol based hand sanitizer will be available for use after toileting, and before & after eating.
  • Please make sure to bring your own snacks and water, and please do not share these with anyone else. During the pandemic Tomaree Coastal Adventures will not be providing any catering.
  • We will be aiming to keep distance between participants and staff. If first aid is required additional PPE will be worn.
  • When you arrive for your session please do not let your children gather with other families – a distance of at least 1.5m must be maintained between participants of different families. If possible stay by your car until the guide comes over to introduce themselves and complete paperwork.
  • Due to the high ‘touch based’ nature of close group type activities, we will no longer be doing group craft or projects

Thank you all for your understanding, cooperation & support in this difficult time ❤️

  • Comfortable backpack to carry your gear. A bag with waist belt is recommended to reduce weight on your shoulders.
  • Weather appropriate clothing. Hot sunny days: Sun safe clothing – long sleeve collared tops, sunscreen, broad brim hat, knee length pants. Wet or cold days: Synthetic or wool layers, warm hat, raincoat, rain pants (if you have them). NO COTTON. Remember to still wear sunscreen and bring a sunhat.
  • Grippy, enclosed shoes
  • Any normal medications (epi-pen, asthma puffer etc)
We use an online waiver system for all participants, please ensure you complete this prior to arrival. This is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce physical interaction between staff and participants.

The form will need to be completed once per term. You are completing this form for you and your children’s attendance. Please ensure to add each child by clicking the + button under the Child Details section. Please ensure you check ALL the boxes in the Risk Warning & Liability Waiver. The only box that is optional is the Photo Consent. If all other boxes are not checked you will not be able to join us. We will have a tablet at check in to complete this form as well as paper versions. However, this will cut into play time so we encourage you to complete it before arrival – we understand this may not be possible with last minute bookings.
Clothing | Expect to get wet and/or dirty! This is not the place for nice clothes.

Rubbish | All rubbish you bring in, you will need to take home with you.

Prams | Most locations are NOT (normally) pram friendly – 4WD prams may make it. We recommend the use of baby carriers and backpacks for supplies.

Weather | We love ALL weather – so dress accordingly! Walks will only be cancelled in the case of relevant weather warnings, extreme heat events and unsafe fire conditions.

Parent Responsibility | This is a facilitated activity. Your guide is there to show you and your children how to connect with and enjoy nature. They will explain safety procedures but YOU are responsible for watching your children and enforcing the safety guidelines. Due to this we will enforce a maximum ratio of 1 adult caregiver to 3 children – including infants. If you turn up with a higher child to adult ratio and no other attending adult is prepared to make up the difference you will be TURNED AWAY with NO REFUND. This is for your child’s safety.

Toilets | Toilets are limited within the National Park. We advise you visit the nearest public toilet BEFORE arriving at the meeting point (detailed on walk description notes). You will need to utilise outdoor toileting practices during our sessions – which we will cover in our briefing.

Please review our terms and conditions. This covers our Booking Conditions (payments, cancellations, photos release, minors, minimum numbers, special requirements, removal from tours) and Risk Warning & Liability Waiver.
